The first Paint It Forward makeover also happened to be a departure from the company’s traditional model.
The Thibeault family’s life changed dramatically in September of 2008 when the family’s eldest son, Corbin, was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified, which is an atypical form of autism.
As is the case for all other families dealing with an autism diagnosis, the activities that comprise daily life take on greater challenges and are tougher than ever. Due to their financial and emotional circumstances, the family needed a helping hand.
Although Paint It Forward typically makes over a bedroom, because Corbin spends most of his time downstairs with his mother and little brother, Levi, the company decided it made more sense to make over the family’s playroom/educational room.
So wonderful and inspirational for your 5 year old son to see the results of hard work, dedication, and a giving spirit like yours. Your son will be a better man because of the example you are setting. Keep it up=-)
I just wanted to post an update to how well Corbin has been doing. Thanks to Paint It Forward, Corbin has been flourishing in his new classroom. We have added some sensory items to the room, including a therapy swing, sand box, balance beam, and other educational materials. Now we have the ability to provide some great therapeutic activities at home so he doesn’t need to wait until he sees his therapist once a week to get some great input. He has been making progress in leaps and bounds and everyone can see the difference in him even socially! We couldn’t be more grateful to PJ and the Paint It Forward team. I know that without the work they put in to help my son, he would not be doing just as well as he has been. Thank you for making a difference in my little boy’s life. You are his hero and he loves you. He still talks about you… and that is saying something for a boy with autism. I just can’t say thank you enough.
